Hello Hello Hello! I so excited you’re here! I’m Kylie, owner and operator of Shade Custom Spray Tans. I`m the wife to the most incredible man in the world, who has made me the mama of 3 beautiful kiddos. Twin daughters and then we added our little dude. They are all crazy and wild so of course I decided to start my own business on top of that! I mean why the heck not, am I right? From early on I always knew I wanted to help people, but in which way I wasn’t sure. I always loved making people feel good about themselves/making people feel pretty. I thought that would come in to play with makeup. One of my favorite things to do is sit in front of the mirror creating different looks and getting to play with makeup. (But just like Bruno, we don’t talk about how much makeup I have or how much money I’ve spent!!) I ended up at one point working at an actual tanning salon, which in a young girl’s life I almost feel is a rite of passage. It wasn’t the best for my skin and I definitely have a few more moles then I used to but I got to experience a spray tan booth for the first time. I don’t understand what drew me in or why I was so interested in it but I needed to know everything about it. What made the product work, who was it better for and the pros/cons of it! It fascinated me! I got older and moved to Sioux Falls and later started working at a retail makeup store in the mall. It was a wonderful way for me to get to truly learn everything about a person’s undertones and how different color can either bring out someone’s natural beauty or leave their skin with an unnatural hue. (Que in the orange.) These skill sets would unknowingly help me when I discovered custom spray tanning. Years later following with a little luck I was introduced to custom spray tanning by a coworker. I was instantly hooked! I was lucky enough at the time to be given the opportunity to train and learn the art of spray tanning. For almost three years, I would work my normal 9-5 job and then two nights a week I would be able to go and work at the Custom Tanning Salon. To say I LOVED IT was an understatement. Going in and being allowed to be creative along with making these people feel beautiful in their own skin was truly the best feeling. So when the opportunity came up for me to work at the salon full time I jumped at the chance for this to be my career! The next two years were a world wind. When I started I would be lucky to get anywhere from 20-30 people a week. I helped grow the business to where I was spraying 20-30 people a day. This was the time that I took my knowledge as an artist and really made it my own. Making sure every detail of your body is getting the attention it deserves and no detail goes unnoticed. My eye for detail not only made me desired as an artist but highly recommended by other clients! The compliments I would receive were not only how beautiful they looked/felt but how comfortable they felt with me. Being sprayed is a very intimate setting, people are trusting you not only to create a beautiful glow/tan but to also feel non-judged while being in their most vulnerable state. Well at some point you need to just believe in yourself and take a leap of faith. With the love and support of my family, I finally decided to be my own boss! I feel like with most entrepreneurs we get to the point of having to decide whether to play it safe or to finally spread our wings and see if we can truly fly. So I did it! Now let’s talk about Shade! I’ve created Shade to be a safe place for my clients to come and feel comfortable in their own skin whether you have the mom bod, cellulite, stretch marks, or a little bit more cushion, all are welcome here. I’ve tried to have a warm inviting environment where you want to stay and hang out and by the end of your service I want you to be like “Did we just become best friends? YEP!” Remember the bonus of having a custom spray tan is that it’s going to fit your needs whether you’re looking for just the tiniest glow or Bahama mama. I can create anything for you, this is your custom spray. Having an eye for detail helps a ton but also having the right solutions plays a huge part and I have spent plenty of time researching colors to make sure I only have the absolute best products for my clients.
